The popular image from t-shirt ‘History of Art’. The rumor is that the design itself was developed in the 90s, but somehow became popular only now.
Nine well-known artists of all times are represented by smiles, each smile representing the artist’s manner of painting (except maybe for Van Gogh who used to paint in brush strikes, but him we can recognize by the cut ear). For instance, Leonardo da Vinci smile is nice and harmonious with Mona Liza’s famous smile, Rembrandt has a typical collar of his times, the smile of Monet is all blurred just like the paintings of the famous impressionist. The smile that represents Picasso is well recognized by geometrical lines, while Dali’s is melting just like clocks on his ‘The Persistence of Memory’. What else could Rothko be but the square divided in two parts? Pollock’s smile is pretty dynamic with lots of chaotic lines, and for Warhol we naturally see the repeating images of the same picture.
Leonardo Da Vinci; Rembrandt van Rijn; Claude Monet; Vincent van Gogh; Pablo Picasso; Salvador Dali; Mark Rothko; Jackson Pollock; Andy Warhol
